How Whatty works
Invite-only
Nobody joins without a code from a member, and there's no directory of people. You become friends in person, with a code that changes every minute.
Spaces
A space is a private group chat for the people you choose. Each one is kept going by one token a month from whoever owns it.
Tokens
Tokens keep spaces open. They have no cash value and can't be withdrawn, but you can give them to friends. A$20 buys 12 tokens (buying opens soon).
If a space isn't renewed, it goes read-only and its chat is deleted a week after it ends. Your account and your other tokens are never affected. The Terms have the details.
Pick a chat
Messages and calls are only for people who were invited in.
Invite someone to Whatty
Type their email address and we'll email them a one-time code. Being invited only lets them join Whatty: you won't be friends until you both choose to be (add each other from Add a friend).

End-to-end encrypted: only the people in the space can read it, not even Whatty.
If you stop renewing or run out of tokens, the space becomes read-only and its chat is deleted a week after it ends. Cancelling doesn't refund the token. Your account and other tokens aren't affected.

Show this to your friend and let them scan it. It changes every minute, so it can't be passed around.

New devices waiting
A new device appeared for someone in this chat. Nobody who is already in the chat has vouched for it, so it can't read anything until you approve it. Only approve it if that person confirms the same code, in person or on a call you trust.

Backup and devices
History backup
Encrypted messages can only be read on the devices that have them. A backup keeps a copy on Whatty's server that Whatty can't read: it is locked with a recovery key that only you will have. Lose the key and nobody, including us, can open it.

Delete the backup
Restoring brings back what you could read. To get new messages on a new device, it also has to be approved below (or by the people in your chats).
Your devices
Each phone or browser you use has its own encryption keys. When you sign in somewhere new, approve it here from a device you already use, after checking that the codes match.
